ABOUT

Banking experience shaped the way I approach technology.

My journey began inside banking—working across customer relationships, lending, trade finance and operations—before progressing into technology, architecture and transformation consulting. That foundation helps me connect strategic ambition with operational reality and understand transformation from both sides of the table.

EXPERTISE

Transformation succeeds when strategy, architecture and execution move together.

My work spans technology strategy and enterprise architecture, core banking and digital transformation, and business architecture and operating models. Across each, I focus on one challenge: turning complex decisions into coherent, executable change.

THINKING

Ideas shaped by experience, not theory alone.

I share practical perspectives on banking, technology and transformation—drawn from the questions, tensions and lessons that emerge when strategy meets execution. This is where I explore what is changing, what deserves closer attention and what it means for the future of banking.

CONNECT

Good conversations often begin with a thoughtful question.

I welcome conversations around banking, technology and transformation—whether to exchange perspectives, contribute to an industry discussion or support someone navigating their professional journey. If something here resonates with you, I would be glad to hear from you.

ABOUT SURYA

I understand transformation from both sides of the table.

My career has taken me from working directly with banking customers and products to shaping technology strategy, architecture and large-scale transformation.

Today, I bring these perspectives together—helping make complex transformation more coherent, practical and executable.

Surya Pratap Dash - Keynote & Leadership

Banking gave me context.

Banking was where I first learned how financial institutions work—not through presentations or architecture diagrams, but through customers, products, targets and daily operations.

I worked across customer relationships, lending, trade finance, treasury and collections. These experiences taught me how decisions made at the centre of an institution are ultimately experienced at the branch, by an employee and by a customer.

That perspective has stayed with me. It reminds me that every transformation decision must eventually work in the real world.

Technology widened my lens.

Moving from banking into technology was one of the most demanding transitions of my career. I had to learn a new language, make mistakes and become comfortable asking questions when I did not yet have all the answers.

Working across regulatory reporting, compliance, customer due diligence, core banking and digital onboarding helped me understand how processes become systems—and how technology choices can either simplify an institution or create new layers of complexity.

Transformation taught me to connect the whole picture.

Large transformations rarely fail because of a single system. The real difficulty lies in aligning strategy, architecture, processes, people, governance and execution.

I am most engaged when I can connect the dots: translating business ambition into technology direction, making complex choices understandable and keeping strategy connected to execution.

How I approach the work

  • Begin with the real problem. Technology should not become the answer before the business question is understood.
  • Look beyond the diagram. Architecture matters only when it improves decisions, execution and outcomes.
  • Connect perspectives. Business, technology, operations and customer experience should not be treated as separate conversations.
  • Stay close to execution. A strategy becomes valuable only when people can act on it.
EXPERTISE

Strategy provides direction. Architecture creates coherence. Execution makes it real.

My expertise sits at the intersection of banking, business and technology. I work across the transformation lifecycle—from understanding the strategic problem and defining the future state to shaping the architecture, operating model and execution approach required to move forward.

The connecting thread is simple: making complex transformation decisions clearer, more coherent and more executable.

PILLAR 01

Technology Strategy & Enterprise Architecture

Connecting technology decisions to business direction.

My work assesses the current technology landscape, defines the capabilities and architecture required for the future, and creates a pragmatic path between the two.

Focus Areas

  • Current-state assessment and target-state design
  • Application rationalisation and modernization
  • Technology strategy and transformation roadmaps
  • Architecture principles, governance and operating models
PILLAR 02

Core Banking & Digital Transformation

Modernising the foundation without losing sight of the bank.

Core banking transformation is not only a platform decision. It affects products, customers, processes, data, operations and connected applications. My experience spans core-banking conceptualisation, platform selection, multi-country implementation, migration and cutover. I approach it as an enterprise transformation—not simply a technology replacement.

Focus Areas

  • Core-banking strategy and platform selection
  • Multi-country implementation and migration
  • Process, product and application alignment
  • Data migration, cutover and readiness
PILLAR 03

Business Architecture & Operating Model

Turning strategic ambition into an organisation that can deliver it.

A target state becomes useful only when it is translated into capabilities, processes, roles, decisions and ways of working. My work connects strategy with execution through capability models, customer journeys, process design and target operating models—clarifying what must change across business, operations and technology.

Focus Areas

  • Business capability assessment and mapping
  • Customer journeys and value streams
  • Target operating-model design
  • Process, governance and service-model redesign
PILLAR 04

Transformation Leadership & Execution

Keeping complex programmes aligned from ambition to outcome.

Transformation rarely follows a perfectly linear plan. Priorities shift, dependencies surface and decisions must often be made with incomplete information. I have led complex, multi-workstream and cross-border programmes involving senior stakeholders, multidisciplinary teams and multiple delivery partners.

Focus Areas

  • Programme and engagement leadership
  • Multi-workstream transformation governance
  • Executive and stakeholder alignment
  • Migration, go-live and delivery readiness

Complementary transformation experience

Regulatory, risk and compliance

Experience across regulatory reporting, FATCA, customer due diligence, financial-crime transformation and digital onboarding—connecting regulatory requirements with processes, data, customer journeys and technology.

HR Technology & Employee Experience

Experience in employee-journey redesign and HR technology architecture, including requirements translation, target-state design, platform assessment, integration architecture and implementation planning.

Banking products and customer journeys

Domain experience spanning branch banking, lending, trade finance, treasury, payments, collections and digital customer journeys.

Application modernization and cloud

Experience assessing application resilience, obsolescence, integration and infrastructure dependencies, and shaping modernization and cloud-migration priorities.

Technology sourcing and vendor selection

Experience across sourcing strategy, requirements definition, RFP development, vendor evaluation, commercial alignment and implementation planning.

Executive perspectives and solution shaping

Experience developing CXO perspectives, thought-leadership storylines, proposals and transformation narratives that turn complex ideas into clear executive conversations.

One connected perspective

Technology strategy establishes direction. Architecture creates coherence. Business architecture translates intent into capabilities and operating models. Transformation leadership carries those decisions into execution.

My value lies in connecting these perspectives—seeing the institution as a whole while remaining close enough to execution to understand what will work in practice.

THINKING

Ideas shaped by experience, not theory alone.

I write about the questions that emerge when banking, technology and transformation meet—how institutions make complex choices, how architecture influences outcomes and how change is experienced by customers, employees and the people responsible for delivering it.

Some perspectives are drawn from articles published with colleagues. Others will be independent reflections shaped by the work, conversations and lessons gathered along the way.

Digital customer onboarding: The next leap in BFSI customer onboarding

Digital onboarding has advanced significantly, but digital does not always mean effortless. Fragmented journeys, inconsistent experiences and manual interventions can still weaken a customer’s first interaction with a financial institution.

This article explores how banks can move from digitising individual steps to creating connected, intelligent and trusted onboarding journeys—and how responsible use of GenAI could make those journeys more adaptive, personalised and responsive.

How HR tech in BFSI is redefining the employee lifecycle

Employee experience is increasingly shaped by technology, yet many organisations continue to operate with fragmented platforms, manual processes and disconnected employee journeys.

This article examines how BFSI organisations can modernise their HR technology landscape—connecting platforms, processes, data and experience across the employee lifecycle. The goal is not simply to implement another HR system, but to build a more connected, intelligent and future-ready workforce ecosystem.
